I have been in this business for nearly 40 years and without a doubt one of the best parts of this business is the people you meet. Whether it’s the customers or the people that come to work for you.

I know I will forget some names from the past, but customers like Mac McCowen, Dickie Carr, Jackie Deaver Jr., Steve Pappajohn Jr., Karen Oney, Norman Collins, Pug Ables, Buddy Howell, Herb Williams, Harvey Beck, Jackie Williams are some of the examples of customers who became good friends. These folks not only traded here but took the time to get to know me and my family as well. I miss them all.

MerrittWe have some staff members that have passed on as well including Gary Moore from the Benbrook store, Charlie ‘Cotton’ Pike from the Jacksboro Highway store, and Allen Key who worked at both the Jacksboro Highway and Benbrook store. When staff members pass away it is like losing a part of your family.

This week we lost another long time Russell Feed family member,  Merritt Bunyard  from our Azle store. Merritt was with us 15 years full time, then part time when he semi retired. We loved having him around.  Merritt was to say the least a unique individual. He had a charm than was so contagious everyone loved him. And always had a kind word.  Everytime I seen him he would ask, “Is that a new shirt?” No Merritt,  it’s an old one I would answer. He would always say ”sure looks good on you.”

In fact the only negative thing you could say about Merritt was that he was a devout OU fan. After a few years we just quit scheduling him to work on Texas /OU weekend, he wasn’t coming to work anyways. But on the Monday after the game whether he was really pumped up or in the dumps he was always fun to be around.

Merritt Bunyard will be missed by all that knew him and all that had the pleasure to work with him. Good bye my ole friend, every time I put on a shirt I will think of you and you will always be in our hearts.

See you around the Barn,
Kenny
