Summer is here and so are those 100 degree days.  It seems like these hot days don’t bother the bugs.  I have been getting questions about bagworms.  Bagworms are larval (caterpillar) that build their bag or sack out of dead leaves and carry the bag with them.  Bagworms attach themselves mainly to evergreens like cedar and juniper type plants.  They will feed on these plants until they change into a moth and start the cycle all over again.

Some people confuse the bagworm with the webworm.  Webworms also known as Tent Caterpillar are a larval (caterpillar) that hatch from a large egg mass. Webworms are white in color and have a fuzzy body.  They form a huge web around the limbs of trees that they feed on.  This web protects caterpillars from birds and other elements.

Both bagworms and webworms can be controlled by the same products.  Fertilome Borer, Bagworm, Tent Caterpillar and Leafminer Spray or any of the Fertilome Tree & Shrub Systemic Drench and more.

Other things bugging you:

  • Keep using Nolo Bait for Grasshoppers
  • Spray every few weeks to help control fleas
  • Use sulfur to help control a number of problems.  Such as fleas, ticks, chiggers and snakes.
