We are finally getting to my favorite time of the year. The summer heat is holding on another week or so, but t I know fall is soon upon us. That means hunting season is near. Dove season opens September 1st, and Bow Hunting starts September 28, 2013.

As you know, I do not like hot weather.  To be honest with y’all I have spent much of the summer in New Mexico. I want to thank Sandy for penning some of Kenny’s Corner while I was away.

There are plenty of new things happening.  My daughter Megan is back home from her summer job at Camp of the Ozarks.  You’ll find Megan helping out at the stores while she decides on what college to attend for her Master’s Degree.  If you see her, be sure to say “hi”.

Russell Feed and Supply recently earned the Purina Chow Honor Council Gold Award.  This award is earned by Purina Dealers who excel and grow their business.  The honor would not be possible without the support of our wonderful staff and customers.  Thank you all very much for your support.

I am pleased to report the relocation of the Azle store is progressing. The new site is approximately 1 mile west of our present location. This could not be possible without the cooperation from the city of Azle, they have been great to work with. We are targeting a spring opening.  The current store will be converted to a pet shop and supply store.  Looking forward we are thinking about adding another store next year.  Stay tuned.

On a personal note I am looking for some cow pasture to rent. Preferably north or west of Fort Worth. If you have any ideas or know of some pastures, please call the office at 817-624-6224.

We have a few events coming up in September.  Sign up now for the Fall Garden Bed Prep class at the Haltom City Store at 10:00 on September 7th.  Sign up online here or call Carl at 817-831-8166 for more info.

On September 14 we are co-sponsoring the Texas Agrilife Show Clinic at the Crowley Ag Barn.  RSVP online here or call Sonja at 817-884-1946 for more details.

Hay report:

3 string Bermuda and Alfalfa are in good supply. I am worried about rising fuel cost driving up prices.

2 string Coastal Bermuda: we need about 15,000 bales to fill our projected needs which shouldn’t be a problem if we get some rain.

The 2 string Alfalfa has been a complete disappointment. I thought we had a dependable grower lined up, heck I’ve heard every excuse in the book this year. Too cold early; too cold late; too dry;  too much rain equals too wet alfalfa.  Geez, it goes on and on!! Maybe our patience will be rewarded.  Stay tuned for more excuses.

See you around the Barn.
