Well June is here which in Texas means that hot weather season is upon us. The summer months are my least favorite time of the year. It doesn’t take much to get me away from the office during the summer.
In May several of our stores hosted events. The Haltom City store offered our first canning class. It was so well received that we are planning another specialty class soon at Russell Hall on Jacksboro Hwy. There will be limited seating and this will be a more hands on class, most likely including a small fee for supplies. Carl at the Haltom City store can answer any questions. We’ll post the details on our website soon, check back often.
Randy, from the Saginaw store and I entered the Boswell FFA goat roping contest. We had plenty of fun, but didn’t bring home any belt buckles. Russell Feed & Supply also entered a team in the Boswell High School Senior celebration sporting clay shoot, again no trophy but we had tons of fun.
It looks like the price of feed is coming down ever so slowly, however hay is starting to become an issue. Usually by now we have a cutting of Bermuda grass but with the unseasonably cool weather in May we are running 2-3 weeks behind. We ran out of Coastal Bermuda round bales a couple of weeks ago, but we did find a good supply of nice Ryegrass round bales until a new crop of Bermuda arrives. The west coast 3 string Alfalfa and Bermuda grass are not a problem at this time.
On a personal note my youngest daughter Megan graduated with honors from Trinity University. Our oldest daughter Rachel just retuned from a 2 week study abroad trip to London. Rachel had the opportunity to sit on the House of Lords at Parliament. Pretty cool.
See you around the Barn,
