Mike’s June Gardening Newsletter: Taking the Bite out of Mosquitoes
Love all this rain but hate the insects that come with it, especially the mosquitoes? With all this water and wet ground, mosquitoes have a chance to multiply by the thousands. Some ways to help prevent the hatching of new mosquitoes is to dump out any standing water around the area. Use Mosquito Dunks in birdbaths, rain barrels, small ponds, water troughs and more. Mosquito Dunks will not harm livestock, pets, fish or birds. Mosquito Dunks are the only product containing BTI, a bacteria toxic only to mosquito larvae, that lasts 30 days and treats 100 square feet of surface water. Simply add this highly effective low impact product to any standing water, or water gardens. Mosquito Dunks begin killing larvae within hours and will remain effective for 30 days or more. This product is also labeled safe for organic gardening by the USEPA.
Other organic products you will find at Russell Feed are cedar granules. Cedar granules will repel mosquitoes from the area with a natural cedar aroma. Just like grandmother’s old cedar chest would do! CedarCide is also effective in repelling a number of unwanted critters including snakes, scorpions, fleas, ants, chinch bugs, cockroaches and slugs. Cedar oil and citronella oil-based sprays are also available in the Nature’s Guide brand of products.
Come see us at Russell Feed & Supply stores to help you take the bite out of mosquitos before they take a bite out of us!
